Week Ahead: EvenFlow Hearing, Autumn Fair and Fox Valley Marathon

Wow. It's going to be another great week in Geneva, IL, with a lot of interesting things to do and news to watch for.

From the serious to the absurd, highlights includes pavement work on local streets, a liquor-commissioner's hearing on celebrities drinking after hours at EvenFlow, a tater-tot-eating contest, the huge Autumn Fair at Peck Farm Park and the Fox Valley Marathon.

Monday, Sept. 16


  • City of Geneva Special Committee of the Whole Meeting: 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at City Hall Council Chambers, 109 James St.
  • City Council: Follows the Committee of the Whole, Monday, Sept. 16

Tuesday, Sept. 17


  • The next meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 17, 2013, at City Hall Council Chambers, 109 James St. Visit " rel="nofollow">this website for the meeting notice.
  • Pavement removal will continue Sept. 17 and 18 on St. Andrews Court, Winner's Cup Circle, Loran and Brigham Court.
  • Geneva will be conducting water flow tests from the Fox River to Randall Road between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, Sept. 17 to 19.

Wednesday, Sept. 18


  • Downtown Business Merchants Meeting: 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at City Hall Council Chambers, 109 James St.
  • Strategic Plan Advisory Committee:  7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, on the second-floor City Hall Conference Room, 109 James St.
  • Geneva Board of Fire and Police Commissioners: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Geneva Police Department, 20 Police Plaza
  • One block of Third Street will be closed to through traffic from Stevens going south. This block of Stevens will be closed until Sept. 18 to allow concrete to cure. This concrete base patching will progress westerly in a similar fashion of block closings.
  • Pavement removal will continue Sept. 17 and 18on St. Andrews Court, Winner's Cup Circle, Loran and Brigham Court.

Thursday, Sept. 19

  • Geneva Green Market Open at Ace Hardware: The Geneva Green Market has a new location in front of the Ace Hardware store at 617 W. State St. Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Geneva Green Market continues until Oct. 31.   • Geneva will be conducting water flow tests from the Fox River to Randall Road between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, Sept. 17 to 19.
  • Harvest Hustle 5k T-shirt Deadline: Register by Wednesday, Sept. 18 to guarantee a Dri-Fit T-shirt for Geneva Park District’s Harvest Hustle 5k at Peck Farm Park.
  • The Friends of TriCity Family Services request the pleasure of your company at their third annual Fall Fashion Show for an evening of fashion, food and fun on  Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013!

Friday, Sept. 20

  • Geneva High School Football: The Vikings take on Elgin Larkin at Larkin. The varsity game starts around 7:30 p.m.
  • EvenFlow Hearing: Geneva's liquor commissioner, Mayor Kevin Burns, will hear testimony regarding the allegations that EvenFlow Music & Spirits served alcohol after hours to several guests, including a number of celebrities, between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5:45 a.m.
  • Geneva will be conducting water flow tests from the Fox River to Randall Road between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, Sept. 17 to 19.


Saturday, Sept. 21

  • Art In Your Eye Fine Art Show/Festival Sept. 21-22 Batavia Riverwalk: The festival features several art exhibits including a Fine Art Show, an extensive interactive children's area, two fill days of  music at the Art In Your Ear Stage, and more.  Hours are Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-4, attendance is free, and the event will take place rain or shine.  For more information, visit the Art In Your Eye website.
  • The Geneva Park District Foundation welcomes families to enjoy a day of fun at the annual Autumn Fair. This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Peck Farm Park located at 4038 Kaneville Road in Geneva. Visitors will enjoy pony rides, family activities, children’s games, crafts, a birds of prey exhibit, and musical entertainment.  Patrons can mingle with animals in a petting zoo as well as learn how to milk a cow. Admission to the event is free with minimal fees for some activities, food and beverages.

Sunday, Sept. 22

  • French Market is Open! The Geneva French Market is located at South Street and Fourth Street in the Commuter Parking Lot and operates from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through Nov. 10. Customers can find an array of products from fresh produce to fine French linens and custom made jewelry. Each year more vendors are drawn to the market because of its popularity on Sunday mornings.   • When the nearly 3,700 runners bolt from the starting line at the 4th annual Advocate Dreyer Fox Valley Marathon on Sept. 22, a team of medical experts will be with them every step of the way.
