Veterans Day Tributes, Wood Award, Scandinavian Cottages Make For Wonderful Week Ahead

Also, 150 cheerleaders perform at Batavia High School.

Next week in Geneva will be wonderful.

Veterans Day Celebrations


Schools throughout the area are honoring veterans with a variety of events on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. Geneva Middle Schools North and South annually put together terrific events.

Congressman Randy Hultgren and keynote speaker Col. Paul Hastings will be among the dignitaries for a special Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. at The Hanger, Batavia VFW Post 1197, 645 S. River St., Batavia.

Cottages in the Woods


Looking ahead to next weekend, a dozen Scandinavian charming cottages open their doors to you at Geneva's Good Templar Park. The "Cottages in the Woods" Scandinavian craft sale takes place Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16 and 17.

Tole painting, dalamaling, Dala Horse carving, Swedish water color are just a few of the demonstrations inside the cute cottages on the wooded grounds. Santa Lucia in costume will escort visitors to the Christmas Cottage to share her Swedish Christmas legend, and Tomte (Swedish Santa) will roam the grounds and greet visitors. It's a fun day for families or a gathering of girlfriends! Admission charge is $5.


Cheerleading Extravaganza


On Sunday, Nov. 19, Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles high school students will be among the 150 cheerleaders gathering at Batavia High School to perform their routines at the Batavia Cheer Showcase on Sunday, Nov. 17. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Batavia High School, 1201 Main St. in Batavia.


Annual Chamber Dinner and Wood Award


The Geneva Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner and Awards Night will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Eagle Brook Country Club, 2288 Fargo Blvd. 

The Annual Dinner will recognize members who have made special contributions to the Chamber by presenting President, Ambassador, Chamber and Spirit Awards to individuals and businesses. The pinnacle of the evening is the presentation of the Wood Award, Geneva's highest honor for community service.
