The Week Ahead in Geneva: Back to School, Corn Boil and Concours d'Elegance
The big event in the coming week — Monday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Aug. 25 — is, of course, the start of the new school year.
That happens Wednesday, with all kind of activities going on at every public grade school, both middle schools and Geneva Community High School. School buildings are closed Tuesday morning until noon for staff development.
Also this week is the annual Corn Boil at Geneva High School. The Corn Boil is the must-see introduction to the 2013 fall sports season. Great food, great fans, great time. The Corn Boil is the same day as the first day of school — Wednesday, Aug. 21 — and it starts at 6 p.m.
In government this week, the Geneva City Council meetings at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall and the Historic Preservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall and the Plan Commission meets Thursday for a meeting that was rescheduled from Aug. 8. The updated Plan Commission agenda and packet can be found here. The Geneva Library Board meets Thursday, as well.
In the areas of fun and entertainment, singer/songwriter Tom Fuller, who has a home in Geneva, will be leading his Tom Fuller Band at a headlining gig at EvenFlow Music and Spirits in Geneva on Friday, Aug. 23, for a special hometown show.
Geneva Green Market is Thursday, Aug. 22. The Second Annual Elburn Family Summer Fest is planned for Saturday, Aug. 24. On Sunday, Aug. 25, French Market and Geneva Concours d'Elegance, 2013 take place on Sunday, Aug. 25.
