The Kane County Child Advocacy Center was established in 1994 to ensure coordin ation and cooperation in the investigation of cases of sexual abuse of children.

“As more people become aware of child abuse, what can be done to stop it and what can be done to help victims of child abuse, we can begin to win the battle against child abuse,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said. “I encourage everyone to stop by and learn how they can become a part of the solution.”

Children’s Advocacy Centers utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the investigation, advocacy and medical services for child sexual abuse and serious physical abuse cases. The multidisciplinary team consists of representatives of law enforcement, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, prosecution, Children’s Advocacy Center and medical/mental health. The coordination of efforts minimizes the trauma experienced by the child and non-offending family members.

In 2010, Illinois CACs coordinated interviews and advocated for more than 10,000 children. Nearly 78 percent of all reported sexual assaults occur to children 17 and younger.
