Help Geneva's Community Chest Tonight—While You Eat, Drink and Are Merry

Tuesday's "Passport to Taste" benefits the Geneva Community Chest.

It’s a chance to sample all kinds of wines from around the world, catch up with friends and neighbors, munch on appetizers and, oh yes, channel money to more than 20 local charitable organizations all trying to improve the quality of life for many here in Geneva. 

The is holding its annual wine gala at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at , 2288 Fargo Blvd., Geneva.

Tickets to “A Passport to Taste” are $50 a person and can be obtained online via credit card or Paypal, or by contacting Penny Anderson, at pennyanderson1@att.net or by calling 630-465-0830.

Of the money the entirely volunteer-run Geneva Community Chest raises, approximately 95 percent goes right back to the community, serving children, the disabled, seniors, the terminally ill, families and those in need of emergency services. 

Know someone who takes advantage of the Golden Diner’s program? Geneva Community Chest money helps fund that service. Do you know someone who has ever sought shelter because of domestic abuse? Community Chest dollars go to Mutual Ground.

Via family or friends, cancer has probably touched just about every family in Geneva, and Geneva Community Chest dollars go to the and . 

Because of the high percentage of return, “that means one donation can help literally hundreds of people, just in Geneva,” says the organization. 

The organization has decided to remain community-based and is not affiliated or involved with any national fund-raising groups.

“As a results, the Community Chest can provide help to some small, local agencies that do important work but can’t meet the stringent qualifications for funding impose by a bureaucratic national fund-raising organization. And, the Community Chest can give nearly everything it collects to the agencies. No funds are diverted to a national organization or to hire a paid staff,” the organization says on its website. 

Want to help but can’t attend the gala? People may donate by mailing a pledge car with donation, or online via Paypal at the link above. Donations also may be possible via a workplace payroll deduction plan.
