GHS Senior Bike Ride Benefits Local Foundation

The GHS seniors donate money to the Paul Ruby Foundation through their annual bike ride.

On May 19, English teacher Brian Burns held the annual . The ride, which began at former Mill Race Inn, ended in Wheaton and had around 60 seniors participate. Burns, along with Paul Thill, has been doing the , and it is a staple of the senior experience at the high school. Several other teachers joined as well.

This year, the ride raised money for the . Class President and Vice-President decided to support the foundation through donations and purchases of shirts. Many students are involved with the foundation or know other people involved in the foundation.

“I knew Mrs. (Dawn) and have a good working relationship with her, and Kevin is on the board of the foundation and knows Paul well. It was just a logical decision to help out the foundation,” says Levy.

Brouilette, a member of the advisory board, said that he has been impressed that the foundation always reaches out to students to participate in the foundation and allows them to really be a part of the foundation. As a volunteer and board member, Kevin works on Internet and social media for the foundation, as well as graphic design. He was also the recipient of the Paul Ruby Foundation Scholarship.

“The outpouring of support we receive from students in the area is phenomenal, and Kevin and Maureen have shown that to us again,” says Vogelsberg, executive director of the foundation.

"We’re lucky to live in a community where students give back to the community and participate in ways that extend far past their own lives." Vogelsberg said.
