Maureen Levy is a Geneva junior with a passion for public service. She was appointed by Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin as one of 30 pages who serve the House of Representatives. Maureen got the news back in December, and the announcement was made public just a few weeks ago that she would be leaving for Washington, D.C.

A full story is coming from Kimberly Kozar later on Geneva Patch.

In the meantime, here are some fun facts, courtesy of the U.S. page website and Wikipedia:

  • The first Senate page was appointed at the recommendations of Henry and Daniel Webster—not too shabby.
  • Students can apply for appointment to one of four terms. Maureen's is a five-month Spring semester that runs from February to June.
  • Pages assist House members with their legislative duties, deliver correspondence and small packages within the congressional complex, answer phones in the member cloakrooms, and prepare the House Floor for sessions.
  • You've got to check out this "Day in the Life of a Clerk" on the U.S. page website.

Congratulations, Maureen!!!!!
