Geneva’s Northern Illinois Food Bank Receives $10,000 Grant from Local Restaurants

Darden restaurants give $61,000 to Illinois nonprofits; $1.7 million awarded to nonprofits in North America.

On Thursday, June 7, employees from several local Red Lobster, Olive Garden and The Capital Grille restaurants presented with a grant check for $10,000. And, to help celebrate presenting the grant check, the Darden Restaurant employees volunteered their time to help package and organize food donations in the food bank’s Geneva warehouse.

The grant celebration event was a success, as the two attached photos confirm.

As part of the inaugural Darden Restaurant Community Grants program, the grant will support the food bank’s Food Recovery Program—which ensures that food that would otherwise be discarded is used to feed Chicago’s hungry. This inaugural program from the Darden Foundation enabled all of Darden’s restaurants to give a $1,000 grant to a local nonprofit organization. In total, the Darden Foundation is awarding more than $1.7 million to nearly 900 nonprofit organizations in communities across the U.S. and Canada.
