36th Annual Geneva Corn Boil Starts at 6 PM Today (Wednesday, Aug. 22)!

The All-Sports Boosters annual corn boil introduces all Geneva athletes at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the new Burgess Field.

There is no better celebration of the start of the school year and the fall sports season than the Geneva Corn Boil.

The 36th Annual Corn Boil begins at 6 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, Aug. 22) at the brand new Burgess Field.

Parents of fall athletes and marching band musicians will get to see their children step out into the limelight at Burgess Field. Mayor Kevin Burns (we assumer Mayor Burns will emcee) will introduce each team and each player, and more than one mom and dad in the stands will wipe away tears before the last team leaves the field.

Grade school children will flock to see the role models they hoped to follow onto Burgess Field in the future. And if tradition holds, the grade schools will compete in a little cheering contest.

High school students will turn out to fill the student bleachers with shouting, horseplay and socializing.

The band will show off its 2012 pregame show, then play the Geneva Fight Song and the National Anthem.

And for the long lines of people waiting to reach the concession tables, it’s all about the corn. Locally grown and cooked in water heated in the boiler of a 1918 steam tractor, more than 1,200 ears of sweet corn will be devoured by eager fans.

And the annual corn-eating contest will determine which class will have bragging rights for the season.

The Geneva All Sports Boosters are the annual hosts, and if you want to volunteer to help out, please contact Tom Finnberg, president of the GHS All Sports Boosters, 630-338-7330 or finnbergs@gmail.com.
