Exchange Club Joins Lazarus in Fight Against Hunger

Lazarus House is participating in the $1 Million Annual Giveaway hosted by the Feinstein Foundation, and the Tri-Cities' Exchange Club is coming up with $1,000.

The Exchange Club of the Tri-Cities is helping fight hunger with a $1,000 challenge gift to Lazarus House in St. Charles.

Lazarus House is participating in the $1 Million Annual Giveaway hosted by the Feinstein Foundation. The amount Lazarus House will earn from the Feinstein Challenge depends on the total amount of challenge dollars it raises during March and April. All financial donations received by Lazarus House during these months and labeled with “Feinstein Challenge” will be tallied and reported to the Feinstein Foundation. The foundation will give away $1 million, proportionately, to participating charities across the country.

Lazarus House serves as a soup kitchen for persons connected to mid-Kane County who are food insecure. It also provides shelter to homeless persons and rental assistance to qualifying households. For the first eight months of this fiscal year, Lazarus House has served an average of 66 homeless persons per day and helped an average of 59 households per month with rental assistance.

“It’s a big part of our mission now to help prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place,” said Liz Eakins, Lazarus House executive director, who addressed the Exchange Club April 3. “We are very grateful to the Exchange Club for this challenge gift. It not only helps us raise needed funds, but it helps us bring attention to the issue of hunger in our community.”

Persons in need of shelter are encouraged to call Lazarus House at 630-587-2144. For rental assistance, call630-587-5872.
