Burgers and Badges with Heart—Geneva Police Help Raise Money for Special Olympics
Geneva police partner with Tom & Eddie's to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.
As a special Tom & Eddie’s birthday event titled “Burgers and Badges,” uniformed officers from the Geneva Police Department will be serving customers from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Tom & Eddie’s Geneva, at the Shops at Geneva Commons, 1042 Commons Drive. Tom & Eddie’s celebrates its one-year milestone on this date; the gourmet burger restaurant debuted a year ago—on Aug. 27, 2010.
It’s all part of a fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois which is strongly supported by law enforcement. And for its birthday milestone, Tom & Eddies will donate 10 percent of net sales for the day.
In addition, from noon to 8 p.m., officers of the will have a 2011 Harley-Davidson parked under a tent in front of Tom & Eddie’s Geneva and will be selling $10 raffle tickets to win it. The motorcycle is a yellow and chrome Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.
Funds raised will benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Illinois. The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association began the Harley-Davidson raffle in 1998. It has been held every year since. To date, $830,000 has been raised for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.
“Many of us have a strong interest in Special Olympics,” said Sgt. Dan Kott of the Geneva Police Department. “Our efforts are to help these special athletes who need our support. Yeah, we write tickets, but our purpose is to protect and serve.”
Six winners will be drawn. At 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Special Olympics headquarters in Bloomington, IL, each winner will be given a key, but only one key starts the Harley. The other five winners will receive 50-inch big screen TVs worth $1,000 each.
“Tom & Eddie’s is very generous to police officers, and we stop in for dinner quite a bit,” Kott said. “I love the place.”
