Tollway Launches I-PASS Website for Mobile Customers

Managing I-PASS accounts is now possible anytime, anywhere.

With more than 3.5 million customers who have decided to “Get I-PASS and Get Going!,” the Illinois Tollway announced Tuesday the launch of a new I-PASS website allowing customers to manage their accounts anytime, anywhere via a mobile device — smartphone or tablet — with most of the functions they have online with a PC or laptop.

“More than 81 percent of our customers manage their I-PASS accounts online, so we’ve made enhancing access to our website one of our top priorities,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur. “Now, our customers can easily check on their I-PASS balance and update their account information with a few taps on their mobile device.”

To access the new mobile I-PASS website, customers can simply visit www.illinoistollway.com and click on the “Mobile I-PASS Management” icon. Then, customers can save or add the link to their smartphone or mobile device home screen to directly access the mobile I-PASS website in the future. Unlike mobile applications that are designed specifically for certain types of mobile devices, the mobile I-PASS website is designed to accommodate all types of smartphones, including BlackBerrys, iPhones and Android brands.

After logging on to the secure site, I-PASS customers will be directed to a main navigation page providing streamlined access to the most frequently used account services. I-PASS users will be able to:

  • View account balance, transponder usage and payment history
  • Review and update personal information and credit card details
  • Add or update vehicles and license plate information
  • Activate a new transponder

A 2012 survey indicated that more than 64 percent of I-PASS customers were interested in mobile access to their I-PASS accounts. The Tollway plans to add more features to its mobile website in the future, including the ability to add funds to I-PASS accounts, as well as the ability to order new transponders.

In addition, 69 percent of I-PASS customers requested smartphone access to roadway information and traffic alerts. In response to this customer research, last November, the Illinois Tollway launched Tollway Trip Tweets on Twitter.com. Tollway customers can “follow” each of the four tollways – the Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80), Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90), Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) and the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) – to receive real-time roadway incident information to help plan their trips. To date, the Tollway’s roadways have more than 5,000 followers.

The Illinois Tollway operates the largest open road tolling system in the nation. More than 86 percent of all transactions on the system are electronic transactions, from more than 4.7 million active transponders and more than 3.5 million active I-PASS accounts.
