Last week’s heat wave broke with very comfortable temperatures Thursday, just in time for local dignitarie and business owners to gather beneath cottony billows of clouds and blue to celebrate a milestone.
St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Tom Hansen greeted the crowd that gathered at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the southeast corner of the parking lot of Foxboro Plaza, 2400 E. Main St., where the smooth flow of traffic served, fittingly, as a backdrop for the ceremonies.
Mayor Raymond Rogina and the St. Charles City Council were front and center, as was new City Administrator Mark Koenen, who was tapped to cut the ceremonial ribbon. Koenen was the city’s public works director during the two-year-long Illinois Department of Transportation project to rebuild East Main Street/Route 64 from 7th Avenues in St. Charles all the way to Route 59.
A second ribbon cutting is planned for the eastern stretch in time for substantial completion on Oct. 1.
