Up in Flames: The Iroquois Theater Disaster

Learn about the Geneva connection to the Iroquois Theater disaster of 1903 at the Geneva History Center Brown Bag Lunch on May 8.

Despite it's statements that it was "absolutely fire-proof", the Iroquois Theater in Chicago burnt to the ground in 1903. Becoming known as the single-deadliest building fire in United States history, it claimed over 600 lives, including three sisters from a prominent Geneva family.

Learn about the events leading up to the fire and how Geneva was affected at our Brown Bag Series from noon to 1 p.m., May 8 in the Bencini Room at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third Street.  Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for GHC members and students, and is free to Herrington Circle Members.  Cookies and coffee are provided and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch. Reservations can be made online or by calling 630-232-4951.

Inglenook Pantry of Geneva generously provides soup on a first come first served basis and popcorn is provided by Kernel’s Gourmet Popcorn.
