Terry Emma: GHC Community Photo Contest Deadline July 30

Your photo could be a part of an upcoming Geneva History Center exhibit and even win a cash prize.

It's already a week into July and the deadline for submissions to the Geneva History Center Community Photo Contest is quickly approaching!

Each time you head out the door to enjoy a summer day or run your usual errands bring along your camera because you never know what will be an inspiration for one of the winning images of Geneva.

Send in your photograph of anything Geneva - representing the history, community, and sense of place that makes Geneva a great place to live.  Photos can be of a person, place or thing and must be original and taken by the applicant.

Your photo could win a cash prize and/or be chosen as one of the 25 selected for display in the Geneva History Center's Museum Lobby from September 8 to November 5.  Sponsored in part by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission and Fox Valley Sudden Values, cash prizes include: First Place $100, Second Place $50, Third Place $25.

Here are the requirements:

Eligibility:  Open to everyone. Residents/non-residents are welcome to submit photos. There is no age limit.

Entry Fee:  $10 per entry. One photograph per entry.

Format for Submitting Prints  8 x 10 print mounted on 11 x 14 matte board, Color or Black & White.  The rear of each mounted photograph must be clearly labeled with the photo title/caption, photographer’sname, address, contact phone number, e-mail address and a short, typed caption (150 words or less)describing the image and its connection to something unique about Geneva.  Entrants must provide a digital copy of photo submitted. Submissions in one format without the other will be disqualified. Digital images should be placed on a CD/DVD and formatted as 300dpi 8 x 10 or in the range of 1.5 meg. to 3 meg. large. Multiple photos from one photographer may be placed on one CD/DVD.  All submissions must be entered with a signed copy of the entry form.

I look out my office window each day at the wonderful sites on Third Street and the Courthouse lawn.  I live right by the river and run through Island Park and downtown Geneva several times a week.  Geneva's photographic possibilities are endless.  Take a few moments and share your view of Geneva.  I only wish I could enter the contest!
