Start With A Sketch Exhibition Opens February 9 at GHC

An exhibition highlighting cartoonists, illustrators and voice characters connected to the community from Feb. 9 - Nov. 2, 2013.

"Start With A Sketch" is an exhibition designed and developed by the Geneva History Center highlighting the rich culture of illustration through the talented cartoonists, illustrators and voice actors connected to the community. This exhibition showcases original artwork from our archival collection and includes a large collaboration with artists and their families past and present.

It will feature well-known artists such as Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and many Hanna Barbera characters along with Chester Gould, creator of the Dick Tracy comic strip. Other local artists include George Borg, John Jarvis, Charley Krebs, Evans and Rebecca Krehbiel, Tom Lichtenheld, Al Ochsner, R.J. Ogren and Robert Spong.

This exhibition opens to the public February 9 at the Geneva History Center, 113 South Third Street, Geneva, Illinois.    Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2, GHC Members and children 5 and under are free.  During "Start With A Sketch," enjoy the fun hands-on activities and new drawing games, books and items in our Museum Store.

The following programs will be held in conjunction with "Start With A Sketch":

    Feb. 8 - Members, Sponsors and Invited Guests-Only Preview 6 to 8 p.m. 
    Feb. 18 - Tribeca Flashpoint Academy - a program on todays digital animation
    Mar. 9 - A conversation with Dick Locher, Pulitzer Prize Winner and
political cartoonist
    Apr. 6 - Geneva's own children's book illustrator/author Tom Lichtenheld
    Apr. 12 - Cartoon Radio performed by the Need To Be Seen Radio Troupe
    July - Each Tuesday in July there will be a Kids Summer Camp from 10 to 11 a.m. for ages 7-10
