GHC Honors the Military as a Blue Star Museum

GHC is one of 2,000 art centers, museums, and exhibits offering FREE entrance for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families through Labor Day.

The Geneva History Center is now a Blue Star Museum offering free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families through Labor Day 2013.

Free admission includes GHC exhibitions "Greetings from Geneva" on Geneva's history and "Start With A Sketch" highlighting cartoonists, illustrators and voice characters from the community.  This exhibition showcases original artwork from our archival collection and includes a large collaboration with artists (and their families) past and present. It will feature well-known artists such as Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and many Hanna Barbera characters along with Chester Gould, creator of the Dick Tracy comic strip. Other local artists include George Borg, John Jarvis, Charley Krebs, Evans and Rebecca Krehbiel, Tom Lichtenheld, Al Ochsner, and Robert Spong. Hands-on features include: Inspiration Station, Touch-Screen Interactive, Up & Coming Cartoonists Sketch area, and a Cartoon Caption contest each month.

Blue Star Museum is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and a record-breaking 2,000 museums across America.  Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families. The program provides families an opportunity to enjoy the nation's cultural heritage and learn more about their new communities after completing a military move. The complete list of participating museums is available at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.
