Behind the Scenes of the Geneva History Center: Preparing for our Next Exhibit

The next exhibition of Rural American Art arrived today at the Geneva History Center

Even though our galleries are closed on Mondays, today has been a hectic day at the Geneva History Center preparing for our upcoming exhibition "A Celebration of Rural America" which opens to the public Saturday, July 21.

This is a traveling exhibition from Blair-Murrah featuring original prints by three well-known Regionalist artists: Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry. It fully illustrates the fascinating history of the American Scene Movement in the full grip of the Depression era.

To prepare the gallery for the exhibit, volunteers came and helped us paint the walls fresh white with mocha brown and golden wheat accents.  While we were painting, the truck arrived from Missouri with six crates full of the artist's original prints.  What an exciting day!

The next few weeks will be spent finishing up, hanging the artwork and preparing the gallery to open for a Sponsor & Members' Only preview reception at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 20.  If you would like to join us that evening or receive all the many other benefits of membership, sign up today and become a Member of the Geneva History Center for just $35/family, $25/individual or $18/senior or student.  RSVP for the opening online or call 630-232-4951.

We hope the community enjoys this exhibition which will be open thru October 31, 2012.  General admission is $2, with an audio tour available for $4, both are free for GHC Members.
