Where to Celebrate Memorial Day in Geneva

Looking for a Memorial Day that's fun and honors our veterans? Look no farther than Geneva, IL.

The Fox River Geneva Post 75 American Legion holds a ceremony and parade each year on Memorial Day. A 6 a.m. rifle salute takes place on the State Street bridge.

The parade steps off at Third and Crescent (Metra station) at 10 a.m. and heads north to the West Side Cemetery and Wheeler Park, where there is a memorial ceremony.

At 3 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission will be conducting a Memorial Day Ceremony at the County Veterans Memorial located at the Kane County Government Center, 719 South Batavia Ave., Geneva, on the front grounds of Building A.

This ceremony will honor Fallen Heroes Christopher Alexander Patterson of North Aurora and Alex Martinez of Elgin as they will be enshrined on the Wall of Honor, to recognize and thank their families who bear the burden of their ultimate sacrifice.

The guest speaker will be Ty Simmons, a U.S. Army retired helicopter pilot who served in Vietnam and Iraq, and a Silver Star recipient.
