Former Genevan Jim Colton Will Walk 500 Golf Holes for Charity

Jim Colton is gearing up to play more than 100 holes per day at four different golf courses—all for charity.

Former Genevan and GHS golf team member Jim Colton is setting out to break his own records for marathon golf fundraising in 2013.

Last year, the Hundred Hole Hike raised more than $270,000 for charitable causes. This year, Colton is going many steps further.

"In less than two weeks, I will be embarking on one of the most ambitious, exciting and daunting golf adventures of my life—four Hundred Hole Hikes within a 2 1/2-week time at four of the best golf destinations in the world."

Colton and friends will be playing:

Pinehurst on June 17 — "I will be starting and ending with rounds on the famed #2 course, the day that it is 'on the clock' as the U.S. Open host (assuming no playoff at Merion). In between, I'll be playing courses 1 through 7 sequentially. Target: 144 holes

Ballyneal on June 24 — "Seven friends and I will again be hiking at the origin of the Ben Cox marathon/Hundred Hole Hike. Hopefully, we won't have 107 degree temperatures like last year. My target will be to match the 155 hole total from 2011 and 2012."

Cabot Links on July 1 — "Canada's first true links course is already a bucket list destination in its second full year of operation. I will be joined by Ben Cowan-Dewar, Cabot's managing partner and the driving force behind the development. Target: 100 holes

St Andrews on July 4 — "What better place to end this adventure than the Home of Golf? Friends Josh Evenson, Todd Rohrer and Tom Doak and I will start off on the Old Course very early in the morning, migrate to the other courses in town throughout the day, then wind our way back to the famed Old Course to cross the 100 hole finish line, hopefully with daylight to spare a few more holes.

Adding it up, that is 499 holes.

"Let's just assume I'll get an extra hole in there somewhere and call it an even 500," Colton said.

The Hundred Hole Hike has always had a special connection with the caddies, since its origination with the Ben Cox 155.

"With that in mind, I'm thrilled to be hiking this year for two great organizations that provide opportunities for young people through caddying: the Solich Caddie & Leadership Academy in Denver and the Western Golf Association's Evans Scholars Foundation," Colton said.
