Burgess Field Ready to Go for Fall Season

The players are getting ready, the band is getting ready and the field is definitely ready for the beginning of the school year.

is ready for the fall season.

After almost two years of, , and anonymous donations that and went and , the is installed and ready for action in the fast-approaching 2012-13 school year.

Yes, band camp starts July 30, fall sports begin Aug. 8 and fall schedule pickup is from Aug. 14-16.

Geneva High School Athletic Director Jim Kafer said he's ready, too.

"For all intents and purposes, the field is done, or at least will be ready to go for the start of school," he said. "Two lanes of the track still have to be added, but I'm not very concerned with the track being done by Aug. 23."

Kafer said the track probably would be installed by the first week of August, and the rubberized material needs a couple weeks to set. Then add the lines, and ta-da, it's good to go.

At Monday's School Board meeting, School District 304 Superintendent Kent Mutchler made a similar report. He said two lanes of the track were still to be done, but favorable weather conditions had allowed for the completion on or ahead of schedule. Mutchler added that the installation new seats and repair work to the were under way and also should be completed by the start of the school year.

You can see a really cool time-lapse photo of the Burgess Field construction process on the Oxi-Blue website, which you also can find on the website. (Look for "Burgess Update" at right.)
