UPDATE: Slim, 100-Vote Lead in AM! Vote Geneva-Batavia Game as NBC-5 Prep Destination of the Week!

Here's one thing folks from Batavia and Geneva can agree on: Friday's Vikings-Bulldogs game should be NBC 5's feature game of the week!

You won't see a lot of agreement between fans of Batavia football and Geneva football this week, except on two points:

(1) It's going to be a great rivalry game, and,

(2) It has got to be the "destination" for NBC-5's weekly prep football segment.

Geneva's is on the NBC-5 team, so someone on the inside understands what this game is about. Here's what Matt said this morning:

"We're going to set a record for turnout for our segment. However, just to note that write in candidates are not accepted. Double check to see if you voted for the right choice, and make sure your vote counts. Just 100 votes separate at 6:30 a.m."

Both teams are undefeated. hasn't given up more than 13 points in a game all season and has trounced every foe so far. Geneva is on its home turf.

"So, are you expecting 7,000 on Friday night?" Rodewald said in an e-mail Sunday. "Lock the gates before kickoff and turn people away? I'm thinking aside from the 2006 games, this is third on the all-time anticipation list in the 94 meetings."

This is the third season of the weekly Prep Destination of the Week feature, and the Geneva-Batavia matchup this Friday is one of three rivalry battles nominated. The featured game gets a LIVE on-location cameo during the NBC 5 News Today broadcast.

Each week, NBC-5 asks viewers to go online and vote for one of three games that they should talk about.

"Tell us on Facebook where we should be on Friday morning, by voting at the NBC 5 News Today page. Track the voting before the polls officially close at noon on Wednesday. Then watch NBC-5 News Today on Thursday morning to find out where we will be on game day," NBC-5 says in a press release.

Here are this week's premiere games:

  • (5-0) at Geneva (5-0)
  • Antioch (5-0) at Lakes (4-1)
  • Shepard (3-2) at Eisenhower (4-1)

For the game that garners the most support, NBC-5 will be there LIVE Friday morning to highlight the game and showcase the students and community in a pep-rally-like atmosphere.

"We're asking students and fans to dress up with all their school spirit, bring signs and be ready to cheer loud for all of Chicagoland to hear. We're spreading the love, so make sure you go vote," the press release says.

"We might not get a chance to return since we're touring Chicagoland. It's a great reason to chat about high school football, highlighting the great communities and students in Hoffman Estates, Lemont and the neighborhood kids from the Northwest side."

You can find all the information at www.nbcchicago.com keyword "Prep Destination." Plus, look for the 2011 IHSA Football Championships from Champaign, LIVE on NBC Chicago Nonstop (Comcast 341, RCN 50) Thanksgiving weekend!
