Volleyball Team Takes Third in Invitational

The Vikings play solid volleyball and beat every team but vaunted Joliet Catholic to take third place in their own invitational.

The Geneva Vikings volleyball team took third place at its own invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings are 7-2-0 on the season, with a 2-1-0 record in the River Division of the new Upstate Eight Conference.

On Saturday, the Vikings won four matches overall with only one loss—to powerhouse Joliet Catholic—and took third in the tournament.

The invitational included Geneva, Fenton, Joliet Catholic, DeKalb, Burlington Central, and the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA).

In the first matchup, the Vikings defeated Fenton in two games, then cruised past IMSA and defeated Burlington Central 25-16, 25-20.

Joliet Catholic, a two-time state champion, beat the Vikings in straight games and went on to beat DeKalb in the championship.

Geneva beat Burlington Central 25-21, 25-15 in the rematch to take home third place. In the second game, the Vikings and the Rockets went back and forth until Geneva took a 12-7 lead with a key block by seniors Brooke Binette and Ashley Bosner.

The Vikings play next at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Larkin High School.
