College: Augustana College in Rock Island, IL

Favorite Movie: The Sting

Favorite part about coaching at Geneva: 'I get the opportunity to work with great athletes."

Why soccer? "I played the sport growing up and in college, so it has been a part of my life for over 25 years."

What will be your biggest challenge with the new baby? "So far, my mom and mother-in-law have helped out a lot. My mother-in-law is from Ohio and my mom is from Iowa, so they have been very gracious in helping out Andrea while I'm busy with soccer. Once their vacation time has run out, there will undoubtedly be busier nights."

What's the best advice you've gotten about being a parent? "Cherish each stage of their life because they grow up so quickly."

Will she play soccer or softball? "Hmmm…that's a good question. She has long legs like her mother, so she may prefer basketball."

Something not many people know about you: "I was a two-time intramural badminton champ in high school."

What others are saying about Ryan

"Ryan is a high-quality coach. He cares about impacting his players on and off the field, like through his annual team-building trips. His teams always seem to peak at the right time for when the IHSA playoffs begin. He's also one of the best workers for our girls basketball home games!" —Gina Nolan, varsity girls basketball coach

"Ryan is a hard worker and en excellent teacher/coach.  I am sure he will find the proper balance between his responsibilities at home and at work and he will continue to do a great job both places.  I look forward to hearing stories about his daughter's first softball game in a few years." —Greg Dierks, Geneva varsity softball coach

"I have known Ryan for about 3 years now. He comes to the cafeteria every day for lunch and is always so nice and friendly. I couldn't be happier for him. I think he will make a wonderful father." —Karen Horn, Sodexho employee

"He's a good teacher. He knows how to explain honors geometry to freshmen. He has a good balance of both seriousness and goofiness. Most math teachers explain their answer to a question from a student in only one way. Mr. Estabrook knows how to change his explanations while still getting the point across. I just loved the way he did things." —Carly Sperber, junior at GHS
