On the Web: Geneva's Pat Schiller Makes College All-Star Team

Really nice articles by Rick Armstrong and Matt Trowbridge as well as some other kudos for the NIU linebacker who's got an All-Star invite and a shot at the pros. He's also training in Batavia.

NIU lineback of Geneva is going to start training for the pros by doing some yoga and pilates at Pro Force in Batavia.

That is, after he plays in the 2012 Astroturf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 21 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

Rick Armstrong of The Beacon-News has a great story on the former Geneva Viking, who was NIU's last scholarship pick in 2007. During his senior year, Schiller had 115 tackles for NIU's Huskies—the 11-win team that won the Mid-American Conference title and beat Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.

Matt Trowbridge of the Rockford Register Star has an equally great article on Schiller. I knew Schiller had been an underdog, but I had no idea just how far under until I read that story.

Former NIU coach Joe Novak at one point advised Schiller to take a scholarship elsewhere. But Schiller convinced Novak to give him that last scholarship spot, and it paid off—for Schiller and for NIU.

You can read Schiller's bio here, on the NIU site, but those are just freshmen through junior numbers. There's also a nice article on the NIU site about Schiller and three teammates who made all-star games.

Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish was named an honorable mention All-American by SI.com and will play in the 87th Annual East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Meanwhile, Schiller will be joined by offensive linemen Scott Wedige and Trevor Olson at the 2012 Astroturf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, CA. The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. (CT) on the NBC Sports Network and will feature head coaches Tom Flores and Dick Vermeil, according to the NIU press release.
