Nick Derr's U14 Sports Achievements Stacking Up

One of Geneva's best overall athletes? Derr playing baseball at national level, excelling in three sports.

Baseball player Nick Derr has been fortunate to play on high level travel team’s one age group up since he was 8 years old—which allowed him to play with and against the best competition in the state of Illinois.

Now at 13 years old, he continues to play one age group older on two top-25 14U baseball teams in the country.

His 14U Illinois Diamond Owlz elite national travel team is ranked 25thin the country by traveballselect.com. The 14U Illinois Diamond Owlz is a National Exposure Travel Team.  The Owlz' record is 39-6 against some of the best teams around the USA.  The Owlz have qualified for the Elite 32 tournament which brings the best 32 14U elite teams together in the country.

The Illinois Diamond Owlz team members are from the entire Chicagoland Area with no boundaries and several out of state players from the southern states.    Two of the Owlz coaches are ex-Major League baseball players with 12-plus years and one who coached the 2000 USA Junior Baseball Team. 

When the Owlz are not playing, Nick was invited and will be playing in national tournaments across the United States with Meteors Baseball out of Florida, which is ranked third in the country.  Florida is one of or the top baseball states in the United States, and Meteors Baseball has been the powerhouse in Florida baseball.

The Meteors organization have won dozens of major U.S. tournament championships and produced a large number of elite and successful professional, college and high school ballplayers.

In spring 2011, Nick was honored to be selected as one of the top baseball prospects in Illinois. In addition, at the end of summer 2010, Nick was selected to play on an elite tournament team by a baseball organization that recruits players from eight states in the Midwest.

When not playing baseball, Nick also excels at football and basketball.  In football, Nick is the starting quarterback, middle linebacker and returns kickoffs and punts. Nick was invited to play on the All American Diamond Bowl East Team in Tempe Arizona in December 2010 but had to decline due to other commitments.

In basketball, Nick plays point guard on his middle school team and on a Geneva feeder team. Nick also plays on one of the top AAU basketball teams in the area.

Nick is also an  honor roll student at Geneva Middle School North.
