Lady Vikings Advance to Regional Final After Crushing St. Charles East, 82-45

The Geneva girls basketball team beats St. Charles East to earn a spot in the regional title game at St. Charles East on Thursday night.

The Geneva girls basketball team advanced to the regional title game after its 82-45 win over St. Charles East on Wednesday night.

Although the Saints managed to keep Geneva within reach for most of the first and second quarters, the Vikings pulled away in the third quarter after a 27-10 run.

Geneva led 31-20 going into the half, but the Saints narrowed the gap to six points in the beginning of the third. Sammy Scofield and Rachel Hinchman countered with back-to-back 3-pointers, and after that the Vikings had an easy time finishing the game.

 “We played a great second half,” said head coach Gina Nolan. “We came out with a lot of intensity (in the third quarter), and that was the difference in the game.”

Ashley Santos had a big game with 18 points, five of which came after she picked up her fourth foul in the third quarter. Kat Yelle put up 15 points for the Vikings, and Sammy Scofield and Kelsey Pease each added 9 points.

The Saints’ Paige Jordan lead St. Charles East with a game-high 19 points.

Geneva plays next in the regional championship at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against the winner of the St. Charles North vs. South Elgin game.
