Girls Soccer Team 8-4-4 After Split at Naperville North Invite

Varsity squad beats Barrington, loses to Neuqua Valley at Naperville North tourney.

The Geneva High School varsity girls soccer team, ranked ninth in the Daily Herald’s Top 20 poll released Thursday, took part in the Naperville North Invitational last week, splitting contests against Barrington and Neuqua Valley.

Barrington played the Vikings tough in their first round matchup on Thursday, resulting in a scoreless deadlock at halftime. Things stayed that way until Geneva junior midfielder Catherine Allon found the opposing net with 10 minutes remaining. From there, the defense held out and the Vikings advanced to the semifinals with the 1-0 win.

They had their work cut out for them the next day against Neuqua Valley, the top-ranked team in the state. Geneva held the Wildcats scoreless in the opening half and within striking distance the whole game, but in the end came out on the short end of a 2-0 decision. Senior goalkeeper Victoria Fortney played well, making 10 stops against the potent Neuqua offense.
