Geneva Tennis Team Takes Fourth in Conference

Batavia's perfect 6-0 conference record gave them the momentum they needed to take the conference title.

Geneva's tennis team finished fourth in the Upsate Eight tournament Saturday at St. Charles North High School, behind conference champion Batavia, St. Charles North and St. Charles East.

The Bulldogs entered the tournament with a perfect 6-0 conference record and carried that momentum to win the conference title with 73 points. St. Charles North had 64 points, St. Charles East 57 points and Geneva 52 points. The conference tournament began Friday and finished Saturday.

Geneva No. 1 singles player Annie Tourte lost to Jacey Sirinit of Elgin 0-6, 1-6 in Saturday's third-place match and finished fourth.

"I knew the conference tournament would be a challenge," said Tourte before entering her first match. "There are a lot of really good players out there, and I just want to go out and do my best."

Sarah Kappele, Geneva's No. 3 singles player, was defeated by St. Charles East's Morgan Nosalik, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, in the third-place match Saturday.

On the doubles end, Geneva's No. 1 doubles team Claire Chlasta and Carly Ausmen defeated Abby Roggemann and Kate Lesswig of St. Charles North to take third place, with scores of 6-4, 6-2.

No. 2 doubles team Kirby Arloff and Emily Melecha of Geneva took fourth place after losing to Hayley Goldsworthy and Kelly Mehan of St. Charles North in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, and 6-1.

Geneva No. 4 doubles team Allison Donahue and Nora Burkhartd, who led the Vikings to a victory over St. Charles East last week, took second place to finish off their impressive season.

Liselot Koenen of St. Charles North defeated Batavia'a Hannah Potter for a first place finish in No. 1 singles.
