Geneva's Eric Young Making Headlines in Bicycle Racing

On the Web: The 2011 USA Pro Criterium champion is having a heck of a first year in the pro peloton.

Eric Young of Geneva just finished an unbelievable year in professional bicycle racing—and probably few people in Geneva know about it.

In August, the 22-year-old won the USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championship in Grand Rapids, MI, in a near photo finish over Brad Huff. You can see the YouTube video here.

Young races for Bissell, and the win in Grand Rapids was perhaps the most exciting of the season. Here's a short article about it from the Holland Sentinel.

Young was interviewed recently by Luke Allingham for www.dailypeloton.com.

From the intereview, it sounds like Eric ran cross country and played soccer in high school. He didn't start racing bicycles until his freshman year at Indiana University, where the intramural program included the "Little 500."

If you've ever seen the movie Breaking Away, you know a little bit about the race and about the culture of bicycle racing in Indiana.

Eric's team won three Little 500 championships, and Eric started looking at bicycle racing as a possible career.
