Geneva Freshman Claims All-Around Gymnastics' State Title

The state competition was held Friday and Saturday in Palatine. Geneva High School finished in fifth place overall.

Claire Ginsberg, a Geneva High School freshman, earned a state title over the weekend, winning the all-around competition in girl gymnastics, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

The state finals were held Friday and Saturday at Palatine High School in Palatine.

Ginsberg had a final score of 37.875 on Friday, finishing with her highest score in the vault at 9.575 and her lowest score in the uneven bars at 9.350, and is first freshman to win an all-around state title since 2005, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

Ginsberg went onto collect a third place individual finish on the floor on Saturday with a score of 9.575, fourth-place finishes in the vault, with a 9.55, and beam, with 9.45, and eighth on the bars with 9.35, according to the Aurora Beacon News. 

Ginsberg was the only competitor to participate in all four events Saturday, according to the article. 

Geneva High School finished in fifth place overall, according to the State Gymnastics Stats website. Lyons Township finished in first place, Prairie Ridge High School finished in second place, Fremd High School finished in third and Barrington High School finished in fourth, according to the webiste. 

This is the second year in a row Lyons Township has claimed the state championship in gymnastics, according to the Chicago Tribune.
