GAME DAY: Nick Caruso's Greatest Hits on YouTube

This should give Wheaton North a little something to think about.

As you know, the full extent of my sports knowledge is derived from what I can find in the GHS program or a 10-minute scan of the Internet.

So my incisive preseason analysis of the Viking football team's defense this year went something like this:

"Hmmm, Nick Caruso—now that's a good name for a linebacker! I like our chances."

Turns out I was right.

Caruso, if you read the YouTube intro, is 6-3, 230 and just a junior. He also shares a name with a famous opera singer.

Presented here, for your viewing pleasure, is about 10 minutes of his "greatest hits."

The Vikings, of course, have to defend against Wheaton North tonight (Friday, Sept. 2), and that will be no easy task.

Last week, the Falcons beat an outstanding Bartlett team 26-24 in dramatic fashion. Wheaton North led 20-10 at halftime, but the Hawks scored twice and had a 24-20 lead with 36 seconds left.

But Wheaton North's junior quarterback must be something special. Johnny Peltz hit a leaping Coleton Hrgich in the end zone with no time left for an amazing victory.

You don't have to take my word for it. You can read an excellent account by Joshua Welge in the Daily Herald or a nice synopsis by Ben Rogers in The Courier-News.

Peltz had 150 yards passing and 87 rushing yards, according to the DH.

It's probably worthy of note that Falcons RB Patrick Sharp tallied 165 yards and two touchdowns, according to Ben for the CN.

Wheaton North is ranked 16th in Mike Helfgot's Week 2 Tribune rankings. Geneva is not ranked.

All of which provides inspiration, we hope, to hear on Friday night some more of Caruso's greatest hits.
