GAME DAY: Geneva vs. Morgan Park

Whoa, Nelly! The Vikings face off against another state-championship hopeful, Morgan Park, a team that upset No. 1 ranked 6A power Providence a week ago.

To be the best you have to play the best, but yeesh, why two weeks in a row?

The Geneva Vikings have their work cut out for them again this week against Morgan Park, a state-playoff-caliber team that's riding high in the wake of a 16-14 upset over No. 1-ranked 6A powerhouse Providence in their opening game of the season.

Last week, the Vikings drove two-and-a-half hours to Rock Island and lost 42-28 in a game that was a punch-counterpunch match until the Rocks delivered the knockout late in the fourth quarter.

This week, Geneva faces off against a team with a running quarterback, Dae-Shaun Hurley, who scored the winning touchdown on a 35-ayrd scamper in the Providence upset last week.

"Morgan Park, they're going to be a bear," coach Rob Wicinski said. "We played them last year, and they're talking about another chance at a state championship. So our first two (opponents) really believe they've got the goods to go the distance."
