FINAL: Vikings Too Sharp for Sabres, Win 42-0 on Homecoming Friday

Vikings celebrate Homecoming with a win against Streamwood, move to 6-1 on the season.

The second half was better than .

A little cleaner, a spec faster. A dollop of smashmouth, a dab of aerial fireworks to match the Homecoming halftime show. Some solid defense—solid enough to notch a shutout.

Overall, it was a very effective, very important showing against a Streamwood team that was 5-1 going into the game.

The importance, of course, comes from the fact that the Vikings were coming off their first loss of the season, a 46-34 slugfest with Batavia, and tonight's game was as much a test of character as it was of speed and strength.

"We were disapppointed with only throwing for 53 yards last week. And I think we've got a better passing attack than that," coach Rob Wincinski said. "This week, we really challenged our wideouts, challenged our quarterback and said, 'You've got to make plays.' They didn't sulk, they didn't pout, they said, 'Yeah, let's go do it.' And they did."

Two pass plays from Matt Williams to Ben Rogers tallied 63 yards, and Bobby Hess plunged in from the 1-yard line. After a nice defensive stop, the senior combo of Williams-to-Rogers was good for another 25 yards, and Parker Woodworth scored from the 8.

Williams had a nifty 54-yard TD run to end the third quarter and start the running clock, with a 42-0 showing on the scoreboard. There was that interception at the goal line in between, but we'll take the win, add some quotes and video to this story tomorrow, and look forward to the challenge of travelling to South Elgin next week.
