Ausman-Chlasta Take Second in Sectional Doubles, Advance to State

The Geneva tennis first singles duo takes second in the St. Charles East sectional tournament and advances to IHSA state competition.

Carly Ausman and Claire Chlasta were able to take the momentum from yesterday's match and their advancement to the state tournament to finish off the St. Charles East sectional tournament in second place in the first doubles competition.

Ausman and Chlasta defeated Lindsey Jurcenko and Amelia Napiorkowski from Kaneland but were not able to stop St. Charles East's Erin Bowman and Claire Hafner, who took first place overall after defeating Bartlett's Katie Gates and Gabby Gregorio.

As a team, St. Charles North took first place with 22 points in the tournament after No. 1 singles player Liselot Koenen won first place and qualified for the state tournament. Geneva came in third with 16 points.

"A lot of good things happened for us," said head coach Maureen Weiler. "Claire and Carly did a great job this weekend. St. Charles East had a good first doubles group, but we did a nice job taking second."

Carly and Claire will play in the IHSA state tournament beginning on Oct. 22.
