AT THE HALF: Saints 17, Vikings 14

Geneva swashbuckling swishes, and St. Charles East kicks a 33-yard field goal and lead into the second half.

What a start for the Saints!

Carter Reading takes the kickoff, has a huge hole up the middle then bounces it left along the Saints' sideline for a touchdown. It took 16 seconds for St. Charles East to lead 7-0.

It took 5 minutes and a second for Geneva to tie it. Geneva went 80 yards, on two big pass plays from Matt Williams—one to Tyler Hickey, the other to Ben Rogers—and a bunch of Parker Woodworth at the end. Woodworth scored from the 2-yard line.

The neighbor schools traded punches from there.

St. Charles East scored on a 41-yard, one-play Reading gallop into the end zone.

Geneva tied the game on a 14-play drive capped by a Williams 1-yard plunge with 5:41 left in the half.

Then, with their backs to the wall and the clock winding down in the half, Williams went for it on fourth-and 5 on the Viking 21. Williams is Geneva's punter as well as quarterback and has the green light from coach Rob Wicinski to try any of three options—punt, run or pass.

He ran. He gained 3 yards, and St. Charles East had an opportunity.

Danny Muzzalupo capitalized with a 33-yard field goal with 9 second left.

Scary thought for the second half: Radar shows a big storm coming.
