Valentine's Day Photo Gallery: 'For the Love of Reading' at Williamsburg Elementary

Children love stories, and what better way to celebrate that love than to share a tale or two at Williamsburg Elementary School on Valentine's Day.

What would you do, for the love of reading?

The first-annual "For the Love of Reading" event brought 11 guest readers together with Williamsburg Elementary School PTO members, students and teachers Monday to celebrate a relationship that can last forever.

"I think the main purpose is to demonstrate to students that reading is a lifelong process, and something you can do at any age," said Williamsburg PTO co-president Carla Pignataro, who helped organize the event.

During the short time I was there, I had a chance to see a master at her craft: "Teacher Ellen," who delighted an audience of first-graders from Becky Furnish's and Fran Kolodick's classes (and me) with her reading of The Birthday Pet, Fortunately and Unfortunately and others.

Earlier in the day, Geneva police officer Eddie Jackson read to the students from a book titled, The Bucket List, and when he left to go back to his job, he told Carla how much he loved this particular Feb. 14.

"The kids filled my bucket list today," he said.
