Tribute to Chuck Lencioni at Basketball Halftime

If you would like to be there for a tribute to Chuck Lencioni, get to the Senior Recognition Night basketball game tonight (Friday) at Geneva.

A tribute to lifelong Geneva resident, firefighter and community servant Chuck Lencioni will take place tonight (Friday) at halftime of the Geneva boys varsity basketball game.

As with almost everything he did, Lencioni was an ardent Geneva High School sports enthusiast, supporter and volunteer—taking on hours of volunteer work that he did quietly and without any fanfare or even the thought of compensation.

Lencioni served on the grounds crew at the old Burgess Field, ran alumni reunion concession stands, and for the last six years of his life, volunteered his time as the announcer’s spotter in the Burgess Field pressbox for home football games.

"We didn’t want this 2010-11 school year to pass by without acknowledging that this past July, the Geneva community lost one of its pillars—and personally,
I lost one of the best friends I’ll ever have‚ when Chuck Lencioni, of the class of 1974, died of complications from cancer at the age of just 55," said Kurt Wehrmeister, who will make the halftime presentation to Chuck's widow and children.

Discussions are under way for an appropriate permanent remembrance of Chuck Lencioni at Geneva High School, Wehrmeister said.
