The Lip Dub Is Back! 'Footloose' and Fancy Free on YouTube

After a brief intermission, the Geneva High School "Vikings Lip Dub" is on YouTube for all to see.

And we're back.

After a little hiatus, the Geneva High School and GTV304 lip dub video is back on YouTube, and you can find it here under the title "Vikings Lip Dub."

As we've , it's something you have to see to believe. A lip dub is "a video with music, using one continuous shot, no edits" in which one student after another does a lip synch while the camera tours through the hallways of the school.

More than 600 students and 40 clubs, sports teams and student organizations took part in the video.

The lip dub was shot Nov. 11 and put up on YouTube sometime on or around Nov. 23. It came down over the weekend of Nov. 26-27 due to issues that District 304 described as technical difficulties.

After the video went down, when you clicked it on YouTube, you'd get a message saying the lip dub video had been blocked "on copyright grounds." There was that the Kane County Chronicle had embedded the video on its website, which offers readers the option to purchase photos and videos from its multimedia store. There was never any conclusion that was the reason the video was taken down from YouTube, but just to be sure, the Chronicle removed the lip dub from its website on or before Dec. 1. A note on the Chronicle website said the student-produced video was never for sale.

Like the movie, it looks like this story has a happy ending.

Applause to all who were involved in getting the video back online, especially to the students, whose persistence and creativity is reflected in the lip dub's big finish.

"I believe that we will win."
