Superintendent Kent Mutchler's Total Compensation: $250,247

First of a series on School District 304 compensation, based on data from the salary compensation report posted on the Geneva School District 304 website.

According to law, on or before Oct. 1 of each year, school districts in Illinois are required to post on their Internet websites an itemized salary compensation report for administrators, teaching staff and the district superintendent.

Geneva School District 304's report is a little hard to find via navigation on geneva304.org, but it is on the "Presentations to the Board of Education" page. There are two reports available, the Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits Report, which includes all certified employees and administrators, and the Salary and Benefits Report Employees with Total Compensation Package Greater Than $75,000.

A quick look at the 2012-13 salaries of school superintendents in Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles shows that Geneva District 304 Superintendent Dr. Kent Mutchler's salary and total compensation are lower than his counterparts in Batavia School District 101 and St. Charles School District 303.

Mutchler earned $227,064 in base salary in 2012-13, and received a $5,000 annuity. His total compensation, which included benefits, is listed as $250,247.

In neighboring Batavia, School Superintendent Dr. Jack Bashinger, who retired at the end of the year, earned $244,744 in base salary and had a total package valued at $343,000. His total compensation included:

  • $25,000 in annuities
  • $7,300 bonus
  • $5,647.98 vacation payout
