State Superintendent Honors Six Geneva Schools

The list includes Mill Creek, Western Avenue, Harrison Street, Williamsburg, Heartland and Geneva Middle School South.

Six Geneva schools were honored Thursday for being named to the 2010 Illinois Honor Roll.

, , , , and were named to the list for their "remarkable" achievement in academic excellence, said Christopher Koch, the Illinois state superintendent of education during a presentation at a St. Charles school Thursday.

Speaking before a gymnasium full of elementary-school students, Koch talked about the 19 schools from the Tri-Cities districts that had sustained high performance for at least three years. He also recognized Geneva's achievement of being recognized for remaining fiscally sound as a district.

"This is about your achievement," Koch said at the ceremony, referring to students at the schools.

"This kind of academic achievement requires that everyone at school and at home is working extraordinarily hard to keep growing and learning," Koch said in a release.

While more than 830 schools in the state made the honor roll, a little more than half received the Academic Excellence award.
