St. Peter School Dismisses Principal, Will 'Seek New Leadership'

For undisclosed reasons, St. Peter School in Geneva dismisses Principal Roseann Feldmann, who has agreed to stay on until the end of the school year.

St. Peter School will dismiss Principal Roseann Feldmann at the end of the school year.

In a March 22 letter to St. Peter School parents, the Rev. Martins Emeh said he made the decision "to seek new leadership" for the school, which serves about 510 students in preschool through eighth grade.

"Roseann Feldmann will not be returning next year. I am personally appreciative and grateful for her devoted service at St. Peter School for the past five years," Emeh wrote.

Feldmann agreed to continue at St. Peter School through the end of this academic year, the letter said.

Emeh said the Catholic Education Commission supported the decision, but the reasons for the termination were not made public.

"Per diocesan policy and applicable civil law, I am bound to refrain from discussing personnel matters which led to my decision," Emeh said in a March 27 note to parents. "To do so would violate Mrs. Feldmann’s rights to confidentiality in employment."

Emeh met with parents at St. Peter Church, 1881 Kaneville Road, at 7 p.m. Wednesday (April 3, 2013.)

Emeh's letters said the school would put together a search committee to fill the principal position.

St. Peter School has a reputation for academic excellence.

"Our students consistently score above the 90th percentile on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and as much as 1.5 grade levels above predictions from the Cognitive Learning Ability Test," according to the school's website.

Feldmann is the co-author of numerous books in the Lerner Publishing Group's "Early Bird Physics" series, including Screws, Pulleys and Put Levers to the Test.

Her bio on the Lerner Publishing Group website says she earned her bachelor of arts degree in biology, chemistry, and education at the College of St. Francis and a master's degree in education from Northern Illinois University. As an educator, she has been a classroom teacher, college instructor, curriculum author and administrator.
