School District 304 Board Meeting Videos Now Available Online

Transparency and easy access are the goals.

The Geneva School District Board of Education is posting meeting videos on the Geneva School District website.

In an effort to allow a broader audience to witness the work of the School Board and learn more about the district, the board in October 2009 supported the decision to begin recording their meetings for broadcast on Channel 10, which is also streamed online. However, Channel 10 does not provide viewers the flexibility to watch the broadcast at their convenience, nor is Channel 10 available to everyone within the District’s boundaries.

These factors prompted the board to ask district staff to post meeting recordings on the district’s website in an effort to include more interested residents in their business meetings. The videos can be accessed through the above link or by going to www.geneva304.org and clicking on “Board of Education” followed by “Meetings” and “Meeting Videos.”  Please allow a delay of up to several days between the date of the meeting and the date of posting.

On the meeting videos webpage, parents, community members, and any other interested parties will be able to view the most current Board of Education, Policy Committee, and Finance Advisory Committee meetings.  Users will also find a link to a video archive, which began with the board’s Feb. 27 meeting.

Earlier this school year, the Board of Education also made available to the public packets of documents that support meeting agenda items. These items are typically made available to the public the Friday prior to a Monday meeting on BoardBook. BoardBook can be accessed by clicking on “Board of Education.”

A summary of meeting actions—titled “For the Record”—is also sent out via 304 Connects following each regular meeting of the Board.

"The Board of Education is hopeful that these improvements to its communication practices provide the community with information about and insight into Geneva School District," the School District 304 press release said.
