ORDER NOW: You Don't Have to Be a Rich Man, But Seats Are Limited for the GHS Musical 'Fiddler On the Roof'

Tradition, music and family take stage in the Tony-winning musical March 14-16 at Geneva High School. But order now, because only a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

The small Russian village of Anatevka will come to life March 14-16 as Geneva High School presents the well-loved, Tony Award-winning musical Fiddler on the Roof.

The classic tale centers on the life of one family: Tevye, wife Golde and their five daughters in Czarist Russia in 1905. The musical, by Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, includes some of the most popular songs of musical theater, including Tradition, If I Were a Rich Man, Sunrise, Sunset, Matchmaker and Do You Love Me?

Senior Nick Bianchina portrays the hard-working, deeply religious milkman Tevye, struggling to maintain family and Jewish traditions even as outside influences and changes encroach. The struggle is intensified within as his three older daughters, in turn, break with Jewish tradition and seek to follow their hearts, marrying men of their choosing, and not of their parents’.

Junior Molly Carberry is Tevye’s wife Golde. Senior Megan Grant plays Tzeitel, the daughter who wants to marry Motel, the Tailor (junior Will Palumbo) and not the butcher (senior Jeff Hersehway) her father has chosen. Junior Anika Nims is daughter Hodel, who finds love with the radical student Perchik (junior Joey McCall) and junior Sabrina Jaffer plays daughter Chava, who finds love with Russian soldier Fyedka (junior Rian Kormos). Senior Becca Grischow is Yente the Matchmaker. Cole Downey is the fiddler.

The musical’s title stems from the painting “The Fiddler” by Marc Chagall. His paintings of Eastern European Jewish life often included a fiddler, a metaphor for survival via the strengths of tradition and joyfulness in a life of uncertainty and imbalance.

The show is directed by Roxanne Curtis, with choreography by Tracy Adams. Pat Frederick is conducting the pit orchestra of more than 20 students and Mary Toledano is leading the production crew.

“Fiddler on the Roof is a testament to the precarious nature of our lives,” Curtis said. “While the metaphoric fiddler strives to maintain his balance throughout the struggles and disappointments of daily life, we today are reminded that family, community and traditions are still what hold us together.”

Other cast members include Marc Belon, Robbie Brouillette, Melanie Burkhardt, Natalie Carberry, Sarah Clemens, Marissa Clifford, Calen Colbert, Meredith Dillon, Maddy Donatelli, Hayden Flores, Angelo Gelfuso, Harrison Gerard, Cameron Graber, Jordan Graber, Dana Hayes, Grace Higgins and Alex Howe.
