No. 10 Story of 2011: Lip Dubs, Flash Mobs and 'Dancing' Rule

Yes, it's a "good news" story, but it's what people in Geneva talked about in 2011.

  • Editor's note: This is the first of the 10-part countdown of the top stories on Geneva Patch in 2011. These 10 are my choices. At the end of each story, you'll get a chance to pick your own top story. I strongly encourage you to click on the links to the original story or stories, because that's where you'll find the real fun in this trip down memory lane.

First, and quickly, I eliminated some obvious Top 10 Geneva Patch stories from my list simply because they weren't purely Geneva. I think the was huge and had a great impact on a lot of Geneva folks. The and Karen Dobner's subsequent were clearly the local stories that captured national attention.

I also didn't include the , even though I think that one has a high impact historically as well as on future quality-of-life issues here.

What I did leave in might surprise you. Some of the Top 10 I picked because they were talkers. Some I picked because I suspect they'll be big stories in 2012 and beyond, and some I picked because I think they're the ones Genevans will remember for many years to come.

My first, odd choice is a combination of "good news" stories.

The very creative, very fun  video project involved 600 students—all working together, and really, on their own enterprise. There was a little controversy regarding the publication on YouTube, but that was resolved, and you can see it .

Two flash mobs broke out this year. One was at the the other at the annual . Kudos to the GHS senior class and to the Geneva Chamber of Commerce for thinking creatively and outside the box. Well done!
