NFL, Geneva Vikings Team Up for 'A Crucial Catch' Fight Against Breast Cancer
Students and faculty at Geneva High School organize a fundraising game night to raise critical funds and cancer awareness during the home game against Metea Valley High School on Friday, Oct. 12, for breast cancer prevention and early detection.
As the nation marks the annual National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the American Cancer Society is partnering with the National Football League and high school football teams nationwide for a breast cancer awareness initiative called “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives.”
Joining other coaches from around the state, students and faculty at Geneva High School have organized a fundraising game night to raise critical funds and cancer awareness during the home game against Metea Valley High School on Friday, Oct. 12, for breast cancer prevention and early detection.
The game will feature Geneva High students selling pink T-shirts and rally towels to raise funds for breast cancer research. Breast cancer survivors will also be given special recognition on the football field during halftime.

By joining the American Cancer Society through A Crucial Catch, high school coaches will spotlight breast cancer awareness and remind women 40 and older about the importance of getting a mammogram and clinical breast exam every year to find breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stage. Coaches and players from across Illinois will come together to “Paint the State Pink” for breast cancer awareness.
More than 2.5 million Americans who are surviving breast cancer will celebrate a birthday this year thanks to the American Cancer Society and its supporters who are helping save lives.
