Kick Off the School Year With the Geneva Coalition for Youth and More—5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, Sept. 13

And, National Peanut Day celebrates the nut that's actually a legume.

Help Geneva's youth maintain a healthy lifestyle by volunteering time and ideas to the . You can find out when and where to attend their kickoff meeting if you keep reading. 

Also, if you're looking for a job, there's a free career coaching event you may want to consider attending. 

Here are five things going on today, Tuesday, Sept. 13:

1. The from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Sunset Racquetball and Fitness Center. The Geneva Coalition for Youth is dedicated to networking with community organizations and providing education and resources to assist youth and their families in making healthy lifestyle choices.

All members of the community who have contact with younger citizens are welcome to attend and assist in planning upcoming events for the year.

2. Registration is now open for the annual Harvest 5K hustle at 7:30 a.m. on Sat. Oct. 1, at Peck Farm Park. Proceeds benefit the Geneva Park District Scholarship Fund. Sign-up by Sept. 23 and receive a free dry fit shirt.

3. The United Way of Central Kane County's kickoff breakfast for its 2011-12 fundraising campaign starts at 7:30 a.m. at Brewster Creek Lodge, 6N921 Route 25, in St. Charles. This fundraising campaign also recognizes the participation and contribution of local agencies and volunteers.

4. Job seekers can receive free training information and job hunting advice during a seminar titled, , from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Aurora Fox Valley Eola Community Center, 555 S Eola Rd, Aurora, IL 60504. This event will be headed by speaker Jeff Garton.

Garton is a best-selling career author, passionate speaker and former head of global staffing for Kraft Foods and Miller Brewing. His research and efforts is said to increase people's optimism and resilience to find jobs faster in a tough economic market. No prior registration is required to attend. 

5. Fun Fact: Today is National Peanut Day. The peanut has been paired up with America's favorite past-time, baseball, but it's actually not native to the United States. According to the American Peanut Council, the peanut probably originated in South America and spread throughout the world with Spanish explorers.
