2011 ALL-WPSL TEAMS & COACH OF THE YEARF.C. Milwaukee & U.S. U-23 star Sarah Hagen makes her second consecutive appearance on the All-WPSL First Team
SACRAMENTO, CA (08/12/11) - In honor of their respective efforts over the course of this past season, the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) would like to congratulate those players who have been named to the 2011 All-WPSL Teams. This was one of the most dramatic seasons in WPSL history, with over 40 players from five conferences being recognized on either the First, Second or Third Teams. It took over-time to decide the 2011 WPSL National Championship on July 31st, with the eventual champion Orange County Waves (13-1-0) having four players named All-WPSL while the runner-up Chicago Red Stars (11-2-0) had three of their standouts honored by the league. The awards didn't end there for the Orange County side, as their mentor was named the 2011 WPSL Coach Of The Year. The other two organizations who competed in this year's WPSL National Championship - the Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves (8-3-3) & Tampa Bay Hellenic (10-2-1) - would also have three of their players selected to the 2011 All-WPSL Teams.Voting for the WPSL All-Conference awards is conducted by the league media relations staff and in accordance with the nominations (of up to four players) from the respective head coach and/or chief administrator of each member team. The All-WPSL Teams are determined by taking those honorees named to the First Team in their respective conferences and putting them into the player pool for All-WPSL consideration.WPSL COACH OF THE YEARABNER ROGERS (Orange County Waves)The smartest thing that the new Orange County Waves professional side did was to hire the man who took another Los Angeles team to greatness in their first season - Abner Rogers. The 2009 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Coach Of The Year for the Los Angeles Sol lived up to his billing as one of the top women's soccer coaches in the world this past season, developing the Waves into a formidable side who could compete with any team, any where. The 2010 USASA Hall Of Fame honoree just didn't roll out his best eleven players before every match and exhale deeply, Rogers' tactical awareness is second to none: that fact was never more apparent than in the WPSL National Championship where his half-time adjustments proved vital to his team's success in winning the 2011 National Championship.ALL-WPSL FIRST TEAMF MEGAN MISCHLER (Boston Aztec Breakers Reserves)F STACY BISHOP (Tampa Bay Hellenic)F SARAH HAGEN (F.C.
