School Closing, Late Start Info for Geneva Schools

There weren't any late starts reported today (Jan. 13, 2012), but here's where to look.

Geneva School District 304 posts information on its website, www.geneva304.org, whenever there's a school closing or a late start.

What's cool for this year is that District 304 has an , which allows the school to send an automated call and e-mail message to the legal guardian. The system was tested in October, but it wasn't needed today (Friday, Jan. 13) because there weren't any closings.

Geneva ended up with about 3.2 inches of snow, if you believe the numbers posted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service report. (St. Charles reported 6.1 inches in the same document.)

In the event of inclement weather, there are several mediums through which Geneva School District will advertise late starts or school closings.

If school is cancelled or a late start implemented, the legal guardians of all students will be notified through use of Geneva School District’s emergency notification system. The system will call the guardian’s primary and mobile phone numbers and send a message to the guardian’s email address, provided that current phone and email information is on file in the District’s student information database.

In addition, school cancellations or late starts will be posted on Geneva School District’s website—ww.geneva304.org—and an email message will be sent to all 304 Connects subscribers. Families may also call the District’s Administrative Offices —630-463-3001—to hear a recorded telephone message concerning school closings and late starts.

This information is also reported to the Emergency Closing Center, which broadcasts the information on the following Chicago stations: WGN-AM (720), WBBM-AM (780), and CBS-TV (2), NBC-TV (5), ABC-TV (7), WGN-TV (9), FOX-TV, and CLTV cable.

Every effort is made to make a decision regarding school closures or a late start by 6 a.m. In the event that a late start is utilized, please be aware that there is still a possibility that school will be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make this decision by 7 a.m., and parents and students are encouraged to continue to monitor the District’s website and local television/radio stations for updates.

Please go to our website to review your school’s late start schedule.

Please be aware there is also potential for schools to close early due to inclement weather. The announcement of such a decision will be made through the same means outlined above.
