Happy Deals on Books, CDs at SADD/English Honors Book Sale Saturday at the High School

People cleaning out their bookshelves and basements contributed books to the National English Honor Society and the SADD Club's upcoming book sale, proceeds of which will help two community organizations. It's a win all the way around.

Want to add to your library? Pick up some great kids’ books for a child in your life? Get the chance to snag a few DVDs or CDs for your movie or music collection?

And do it all at a fraction of the price of new?

Look no further than the book sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at , sponsored by the SADD–Students Against Destructive Decisions–Club and the National English Honor Society. And while you’re beefing up your own collections, you’ll also be helping others.

The sale encompasses the Geneva School District community, with donation sites at several district schools. (Donations are now closed.) In fact, said SADD adviser Becky Furnish, Fabyan Elementary School just held its own book sale this past weekend. All unsold books from that sale have been donated to this latest effort.

“The whole community is behind us,” said Furnish, who works with GHS teacher Lisa Gillette in advising the SADD Club.

Proceeds will be divided between two great community causes, Mutual Ground in Aurora, which provides services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and Lazarus House in St. Charles, a community home serving homeless or at-risk individuals.

This is the second annual SADD book sale, with movies and music added to the offerings this year.

“We’ve got a lot of books,” Furnish laughed. The books run the gamut from adult fiction, to children’s books, to art books and professional books and more.

Once the sale is over, any unsold items will be donated either to the Geneva Public Library for its Friends sale during Swedish Days in June or to local libraries for their collections. Add in the fact that the books for the sale came from people cleaning out their own shelves and basements, and it’s clear this is a community cause on many levels.

Books are priced at $2 for hard-covers and $1 for paperbacks.
